Thanks. For me it's a little difficult to put in writing every step to a project. We do a lot out of habit without thinking about what we are doing. I had to remember my old programing days.

I think they cast farther also. I crappie fish with a bait casting reel and cast 2 jigs 1/32 oz each as far as any spinning reel. I can get the line to pass thru the center of each guide when using 4 guides.If you don't mind post a pic with 3 guides. I would like to see it.

I want to thank you rod builders that have offered input. I am not aware of any other rod builders in my area so no one to talk "rods" with. It is rare that I build a rod these days. I can't see well enough to get the thread detail I like and it is difficult to lean over the rod wrapper very long. That being said I will probably build the Lone Stranger a matched set of crappie rods of various lengths. We both use bait casters and spinning rods for crappie. Whenever possible I prefer a bait caster because of the greater efficiency of the drag system. I am however aware that it takes some getting used to on casting ultralights with a bait caster.

I did leave one of the sequences out so I should probably correct that now. First you do a little reading and these days watch a few videos. Then you make yourself a few rods and hone some skills. Then a fishing guest asks if they can try one of your rods. Next thing you know people are asking you to make them one. You get a tax number and start selling rods. $$. Someone asks if they can see some of your rods and you show them something like this.

i Fully intend on building a rod or two, just too many irons in the fire right now. I refer to this thread and reread it often. I seem to find another tidbit that i guess i missed the other times i have read it. thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread. It is very helpfull.

Wow really enjoyed your post,learned quite a bit.Those are some nice crappie,which lake do you mainly fish if not being too nosy?Sorry to hear about your back,know that is miserable,my eyes change each year,amazed at your patience and the ability to make those.Beautiful,The friend is a lucky guy,hopefully he doesn’t wear his costume when fishing?thanks again!
