My buddy and I push jigs. I use 6 to 8 pound braid with a 3 foot long leader of 4 pound fluorocarbon. The braid does not have near the blowback of mono, and we are pushing jigs 20 feet down in some cases.
We tried a lot of other combinations. This one works best for us.

I don't know if this is true but it seems true from my experiences, I get less hook ups with braid in really clear water versus using mono or a floro leader. This has played out a number of times, braid straight to bait and the bite is tough. Use the same bait and use a reel with mono or add a floro leader to braid and the bite picks up. Water with color doesn't seem to matter as much. This seems especially true if I am fishing a clear creek or river in the summer. Seems like the braid makes them spookier then they already are.
This is just my experience and may or may not be true, but it does seem to make a difference in certain conditions.
