Question about old submerged rock jettys

Found some peculiar humps in the river that I fish.They were both about 200' apart in 20+ feet.Sonar showed 2 humps that rise about 5' from the bottom.They run out from shoreline and seem to fade toward channel.Have heard that before dams that there were rock jetty's located upstream from dam.Is it possible that these are from before dam days.Dam was put in in 50 something.Lots of fish around these humps but unable to make contact.Any ideas what these could be and how and when to fish them?It was in Feb. when I found them and water temp was in 40's.Fish seemed to be spread out on downstream side of hump.Just learning how to fish confined open water.Any and all replies welcome.Oh yeah, this is on the Alabama river between Cleiborne and Millers Ferry.

Could be sand bars... but regardless their probably good starting points to catching a ton of fish.

This could be what you are talking about or maybe an old road bed, bridge hump. The fish generally hold on the down side out of the current and to ambush baitfish coming over the hump.

This could be wing dams or jetties to control the flow of the water away from the bank. usually on an outside bend in the river so the current wouldn't cut away the banks. We still have them here on the Missouri River to direct the current. Fish on the back side of them just in from the end. Fish are oppurtunistic and lay in wait to nab something coming along. There should also be brush and logs on the back side of them from the eddies that form on the down current side of them. They are usually great fishing around them. If in a River than there will most diffinantly be catfish. EB

+2 I would guess wing dams. Several in the Ohio then they put in regular dames and now they stay underwater. See lots of guys catching whites, stripes and hybrids off the back side of them. et they would be good for cats too. I'm too busy in the creeks to give them a shot but have seen several on the graph while running the river;)
