creek crappies
yesterday I floated one of the local rivers. mainly just for fun, but of course I took along a bass rod and my ultralight, just in case. almost every hole I came to was holding smallmouth and one even had a nice largemouth, which kind of surprised me because I caught it more than two miles upstream from the main lake on a river that is only about 25 feet wide. then about another half mile down stream came the big surprise. almost 1 1/2 miles upstream from the lake I came across a little pond like bend in the river that was lined with cattails and was in the 7 - 8 feet deep range. I figured what the heck maybe there will be a couple gills in there. man was I surprised when I pulled 8 decent crappies from that hole. I never figured the specks would be so far from the lake this late in the year.

hey yankee doodler, Cedar River, Gladwin county, . Here is what yesterdays creek crappie and bass look like after being filleted , soaked in ice water over night, shaken in a bag of stone ground corn meal, pan fried in a combination of vegetable oil and butter, and seasoned with cayenne and chicken seasoning.
