Ok. I finally got roundtuit. Lots of pms about a fid. Here's a vides(s) for you young whipper snappers and a few of you old Yanks.:) Getting to be a lost art.

You can get plastic fids at Ace Hardware. The one Vonna was using was made from bottom part of an ink pen. Someone on c.com told me of the pen trick. I can't remember who.

I always just use Black Tape to tape up the end of the rope with. And did mine. Sure a easy way to do it.

Great info. As an old swabby, having learned old fashioned marlinspike seamanship, I've always done an "eye splice" which required sticking with three strand braided line (rope). Now I can go with plain old nylon line and put a decent eye on it.

Pretty neat, I done all my ropes, only one problem, I tore up my best ink pen to do it. After I got done guess what fell out of the rope package "yep a Fid". I was able to put my pen somewhat back together.

Talk about "poetic license" - I'm thinking Fid goddess is really stretching it!!! Imagine going to visit and BS with Cane Pole and finding out I'm gonna be in "the movies" :eek:
It was pretty nifty learning how to use one though, now I wanna put loops in everything! As Tom says, it's one of those skills that's becoming a lost art because you can buy nearly everything "ready made"

Good work. Good video. If'n ya get in a pinch, take the bic lighter to the end of the rope and melt it into a rounded nud and do all else the same. Always worked for me. JoeJV4, glad to know I'm not the only one who does it the old way wiyh twisted rope. Learned it out of an old sea scout manual.
