Bald Eagles
While dropping Bamboo Crappie Condos and doing a little scouting the other day we saw several Bald Eagles. In one place five came out of the trees on both sides and flew ahead of us up a small creek channel. In another place there were two immature eagles hanging around while we were checking the crappie in a spawning cove. One decided to sit still long enough for me to take a couple pictures:
When we got too close it came out of the tree right towards us:
Most of them will be heading back north soon but the rangers say we have 3 active nests on Lake Greeson and they counted over 60 Bald Eagles in their eagle count this year.

Awesome photos...they are still young since they don't have their characteristis white head and tail feathers.

You are almost as good of a photographer as you are fisherman. But, you could have waited until those talons got a little closer coudn't you?
I have seen shots like this while drifting on the white river for trout. One time I wounded a little trout and watched it drift toward an eagle just to watch it swoop down on it. I don't think that was legal; but, it sure was a magnificent sight.

That last pic looks like the Eagle is attacking you. Did you survive? Or did it at least take your hat? Great action shot.

Wonder why they are called bald eagles when they got "feathers" on their head?
-
Bald or balde is an old English term that means white.

Great pictiures, we always see several on Nimrod Lake each winter too.

Isn't it cool to watch those. I have a few local nests I like to watch every year here. One on Chautauqua, one on lake Erie and one at Alleghany state park.
