If I hang up on a brush pile I intentionally break my line to keep from pulling the brush in my boat. If you pull that hard the fish leave. I also carry a tow rope in case I break down or someone else does. I can see a need for breid if you don't carry a rope.
I have read several post about line twist, kinks , etc. but I really don't have that problem with mono. Maybe once or twice a year. I have no need to cast a 1/32 oz. jig 50 yards and at my age I would surely forget the broom handle, mop handle or other devices to keep from cutting my hands. Brooms & mops always have annoyed me.
Just remember---the older you get, the earlier you have to start.....LOL
