I think that's an old wives tale. It's the same water that runs through Norman, Wylie, and Santee. I have eaten stripers, craps, cats, and white perch for 30 years and they are all lip smacking good in my opinion.:)Quote:

this link might answer any questions you have about fish adviseries in sc
i been hearing a lot about how good king mackerel are. according to the above advisory you shouldnt eat em if they are over 33 inches.
I have caught BooCoo crappie out of Wateree and I do think they have a "bad taste" which I tribute too the amout of shad they eat . The taste I am talking about ,taste just like shad smell. The crappie out of Wateree are the fattest of any lake I have fished in the South East & just like any other critters they WILL taste like the food they eat IF they eat enough of it ( wild turkey & rabbits have a wild onion taste if they have been eating it) , What I do is fillett the crappies, soak the filletts in water in the fridge for a few days & chage the water as often as 3-4 times a day , also I put salt & Vinagar in the water as it help take the fishy shad taste out & also firms the meat up in warmer weather . After the filletts have soaked for a day, you can skim the "fat" off the top of the water , rub your hands togather in that fat & it smells like shad , hence the taste that some people speak of
just my 2 cents worth
Been fishing and eating crappie, catfish, bream, bass, and a few striper out of Wateree, literally every weekend for a couple years until my grandpa passed away and we lost our place there since I was 2.
I have eaten them and I am ok....sorta.
thanks for the link. It is right on. I have been somewhat worried about stripers from wateree and this makes me feel a lot better.Quote:
