Crappie, a Kayak, and OE? Spells Adventure.......

Friday, Son calls, "Dad, can I use your Kayak?", Sure come get it.

So my Son goes to Selkirk lake, and doesn't catch anything, and lost 2 poles while fishing from the Kayak.
1 was my ultra light rod for Crappie, so he will never hear the end of it, not only fm me, but his friends he was with as well.

Anyways, I figured if my Son can fish from it and lose 2 fishing poles, how bad can it really be???????

Monday, I loaded it up, and away I went to my secret holiday weekend lake, known as Bassett Lake.
However , its not longer a secret, as the entry has been graded, smoothed over, WIDENED, and the parking area has been enlarged. There is a new nature trail, and my beloved secret lake.

Upon examination, it was as MUDDY as the Mississippi, torn up and ugly. I launched anyway, and started working my way around. before I got 1/8th of the way around some one launches, and his the throttle, does a few circle, and some southern yells, and heads back to the launch. His breath expired, and out of breath, loads back up and leaves. 3 other people arrived, fished very little, if at all, loaded and left.

I ended up by 5 or 6 being the only boat on the lake, and kept fishing. I was sad that my once hidden gem, was no longer the gem I had remembered, but it was still quiet, compared to say Duncan, or Gun Lake.

Anyways, I darn near rotated over the sides, a few times, after catching the first Crappie I was wondering "Where do I put this? & where would I keep my limit of Pan fish?

Getting to storage was a pain the G, (Keeping you on your toes) you have to get your legs over the side, slide forward, or to get to the rear storage, contort like a 6 year old gymnast, while maintaining your balance, and knowing people are watching, and have bets on the crazy fat man in a Kayak.

Neither was popular with my joints, and chiseled physical stature, Overall, I can do it, but prefer my regular boat, its not for me.

Other issues, no livewell, where to I keep the 9 inch Crappie I caught, the two others, the few gills, and the tiny bass.

I did not fall in, or flip over, so I think the guy on the dock, with the green shirt, lost the bet.

I see the draw for Kayak's as a Kayak, but not fishing from them. Just not for me. I might do it again in a pinch, but I don't think I would go out y way to purposefully go in a Kayak.

Enjoyed the write up. I will say just like boats the kayak you use makes ALL the difference! My first kayak was a Lifetime Tamarac I purchased from Walmart. Cheap and got me on the water. I had done plenty of research online beforehand and knew that was the one in my budget. While I never flipped it there were some rear cheek clinching moments. I always found a way and made it work though. My current kayak is a Native Titan. This is a heavier kayak at around 120 lbs or so but it is soooooooo much better. It’s wider and more stable, much more comfortable, I can stand and move about and has much more room. I can easily carry multiple rods with no fear of losing one or anything by accident. Also this is a pedal kayak and I’m covering much more water and faster than before. My biggest love is no motor or loud noises so I feel closer to nature and the outdoors. I have no taxes or maintenance really and just load in back of truck and go whenever. Takes very little space to store verses a boat. I never had any payments although I did save my pennies for electronics. Before completely ruling them out might be worth considering another kayak. I will admit kayaks aren’t for everyone but they sure work for me.
