Rend Lake- General Information Request

I'm heading to Rend Lake for the first time ever. In the process of doing my pre-fishing scouting and could use some general information about the lake. I'm not looking for your honey holes. But I am looking for some general info.
What is the main food source for Crappie?
Any special food sources this time of year? Things like May Fly's, Red Worm harvest, Crayfish hatch, etc.
Vegetation- Are there weed beds? If so, what type of vegetation do the Crappie prefer on Rend?
I hear there are a million trees. Is the whole lake pretty much no wake due to submerged trees? Or is there open water areas for pleasure boaters?
Speaking of pleasure boaters- are they a nuisance? If so, what times are they on the water, in general terms. Clinton Lake it's pretty much from 10am to 5pm. Ramps get packed at those times and the lake is pretty empty before and after. Rend have the same patterns for pleasure boaters?
What about fishing technique. What is the preferred method; slip boober, cast an crank, pulling crank baits, spider rigging?

Anything else to share?

Lots of underwater stumps. South of Hwy 154 is mostly pleasure boats, some coves to get into to avoid them. My experience, very little weeds. If you don't know where you are going be very careful. Would be very easy to break a prop or lower unit. Yes the pleasure boats can be a pain, also tournaments. I use either jigs or minnows when I go.

When are you going to be there?

right now I would hit the stump fields on the north. End of the lake. Stop by lake zone (bait store) and talk to Josh Dudley. He will be super helpful.

Look into the navionics app it will give you an idea of where stump fields are and etc.. also it has the fish attractants marked from the corps site.

shad
almost no weeds
most standing timber and stumps on the north end (map pretty reliable)
plenty of open water for pleasure boats, 10:00 to 6:00 on the south end can be a challenge
jigs and minnows work well on the wood, spider rigging works well also
very rarely see anyone pulling crank baits
livescope very helpful in the stumps and timber and brush piles
