i jumped in as cheaply as i could, like it, have had spectacular success with it and i see some videos with these guys with these heads that spin on there tying vises and that looks quicker and easier, but from what im seeing ya gotta spend atleast a $100 to get one, surely there is a more reasonably priced one out there, what say ya"ll?

I bought a $65 one and it’s ok but not great and now I want a peak. Around $165 or so but worth it I hear. I also hear they are back ordered though. But then I can’t help but ask myself do I really need it?
My buddy at work just bought a fully loaded peak vise off eBay or amazon about a week or so ago. Think it was through kingfisher actually though. $199 if I remember correctly but if you add up everything he got separately it would have been even more. Taking some of my stuff tomorrow to work to show him some things and help start his addiction. Love my peak vise and so very glad I upgraded to it.
I tried the peak at basspro, and it seemed one side heavy. Like it wanted to flop over ,(head not whole vise), once it went over top center. Tried the Rensetti 2000 and fell in love right their. No heaviness or wanting to flop over felling. Great vise, but about 20-30 dollars more than a peak vise...
My $65 vise does like you’re talking. It turns and then so far wants to flop over quickly.Quote:

That is all easily adjustable with the thumb screw. From locking it down to free spinning. I actually sort of like that and depending on what I’m doing leave screw loose so it centers my jig back straight up and down easily. Sort of a self centering function.Quote:

My advice is save your money and spend $150 + on a good vise that will last a lifetime. I've been tying on my Renzetti Traveler for over 25 years and have easily tied over 250,000 jigs with it hook size range from size 18 to 6/0. Spent under $100 for it back then. Lot's of good vises in the $150-$200 range. Pick one and once you tie a few and start to get the feel of it you will be glad you did.
Well I had a Renzetti Saltwater Traveler with Cam Jaw and loved it, but it was my back up vise and I sold it not long ago. The Peak is a great vise and built like a tank, but if you have thick fingers/large hands I would say you should look at the Renzetti, but if not the Peak is great and will do well. I tie on a Nor-Vise, but the cost has really gone up since I bought mine for $300 and now are $400.
Have also been a Peak dealer and just yesterday ordered one for a new tyer.

Peak is a great one for the price point. I tie size 24 Midges for Trout all the way up to 4/o for Bass and everything in between. Lots of good choices -- find one that works for you and crank out the patterns.
