We’ve had our turn, now it’s theirs...
Folks welcome to this magical time of year we call Summer. For us crappie fisherman, it means we now “hand over the keys to the Porsche”, so to speak. To plainly put it get out there and fish at dusk, dawn, or bust out those lights. I kept 8 fish today, fishing from 7:00 am until about 10:30, maybe catching 30-40 small crappie and a couple of nice blue cats to boot. But around 11:00 the heat was oppressive, my umbrella could only do so much. There were literally hundreds of pleasure boaters already in the water by the time I left and another hundred in line. I’ll keep my comments on the PG side but man are some of these folks rude...and this ol boy don’t put up with rudeness. I’ve helped out more stranded boaterist’s than I can count and have all but given the shirt off my back to so many people over the years in the water and I would never act the way some of these people do, some ramp etiquette and trailering practice can go a long way, y’all feel me? Anywhoo it’s a post spawn world so you need to cover some ground, and put your bait in front of as many fish as you can. Some are hammering it. Some are light lipping it and some are flat lock jawed. If you don’t want to crappie fish I found about 100 bluegill beds today side scanning just looking for new water to fish, and I saw a lot of folks jugging for cats..as for me I’m gonna stick with the slabs....glutton for punishment I reckon. Y’all be safe out there, not many widow makers floating but plenty of idiots by lunchtime.

Try living in my world 7 days a week. Yes, I hate wake boats! There, I got it out of my system. I also hate green carp fishermen who think they own the lake and are just being nice letting us use it! Granted, the % of troublemakers is small but very memorable.
finiman and I were in separate boats Thursday on Barkley. We got close enough to talk back and forth without yelling. There was 200 yards of open water to the south and 400 yards to the north. A jerk in a big Ranger blasted right between us!!!!??Really?
BTW, summer is some of my best fishing so I deal with it. There are places on KY and Barkley I turn over to the tri-toons, jet skis, and assorted other wave makers very early in the day. At least twice a year I have boats come in so close to check out what I’m doing, I can throw a crankbait into their boat. These boats literally are no more than a short cast off the ends of my poles while I’m trolling!
