Made it out for my first trip of the year. Late start for me, ice has been out for a few weeks. I usually jump the gun a little though and fall victim to cool water temps and slow fishing in the spring. I decided to hold off this spring and get some projects done before I hit the water. I had heard that water temps were starting to hit 50 degrees so I knew the time had come.
My friend and I hit the water at sunrise this morning. Got into fish fairly early on. Initially I was the one doing most of the catching, later in the morning he was the one doing it. So it was a pretty even day between us. Was a little windy so we had to stay in certain areas to be able to fish.
We left around 10am. Didn’t really count but I figure we caught around 25 fish total. Mostly Crappie with a yellow perch, a couple of pumpkinseed sunfish and a couple of largemouth mixed in.
I kept a few Crappie, a Yellow Perch, and a really nice Pumpkinseed. My buddy also caught a really nice Pumpkinseed in the same area. Very nice thick filet came off of that. Air temp was in the 40’s when we started. Not sure if the water temp which was rather disappointing. My friend had an issue with his fish finder so we were flying blind. Great first trip though. Can’t wait to go again and I also can’t wait to read more of you folks adventures this open water season.
