Johnson outboard control cables

I have a 88 Johnson 20hp outboard,that I need to replace the shift and throttle cable,It looks like you just get two that looks the same (Teleflex 479 series) and on the throttle engine side you use the clip from the old one and snap it on.then take your control box apart and put the ends of the cables in the correct holding tray and put it back together.

Is that the correct way to do this.....thanks

Also can you get adpters that you can use the 400 sieries (for 1979 and older evinrude,johnson )outboard controls. I have a Simplex shift and throttle control box i want to hook up to a newer evinrude....
