Garmin and Lowrance live are both pretty much the same technology. You choose which brand you prefer.
Low end Garmin system with 9" screen with Livescope close to $2,500. You go up from there depending on screen size and other stuff you may or may not want to add besides Livescope.
If it was me, I have Garmin. It has issues, so does Lowrance. Garmin cannot correct ghost tree/dead spot issues many of us are having since they introduced Perspective View. Garmin has released several software fixes for this that do nothing!
At this point if I didn't already have Livescope I would be willing to wait and see what Humminbird has coming out soon!
That being said I've had Livescope now for about 2-1/2 years and can't imagine fishing without it even with its issues!
Roy is right .... I'm in my Livescope system to the tune of about $2500
Livescope & Garmin 93sv UHD $2200 (no tdx for 93sv)
68AH AGM battery $200
Cumberland Crappie mount $100 (no longer made)
I already had a Hook 7 mounted at bow (tdx on TM), which I now use mostly for maps/waypoints. That's the reason I bought just the head unit for the 93sv, plus I wanted the whole screen dedicated to Livescope & not have to split the screen or constantly be switching screens. Plus I didn't want to have to move the Hook & its tdx.
The CC mount was added behind the Hook and can be raised up to almost 2' if needed.
The dedicated battery was purchased to run the 93sv & LS, because together they can pull 2-4 amps/hr.
I agree with basic cost as described above. I have echomap 102sv ultra garmins on bow and console w/livescope transducer on trolling motor. To Roy's point above, the latest update from garmin says it addresses/fixes the "ghost tree." I have not installed it yet so don't know for sure. I have encountered the ghost tree a time or two but can usually reduce or eliminate by adjusting the gain. I have no experience with Lowrance's Live Target but I believe the technology and cost are basically the same as garmin.
Cheapest unit I know of is the 93SV at $599 and the basic Livescope transducer and black box for $1499, or $2100 plus tax. Then there are potential battery and transducer mounting requirements as well, but they usually don't add up to much in comparison.
