I will be scouting for them next week and just can't wait. my places I hunt they are usually stacked with toms or cupboard bare. last year heart issues had me staying on road and only watching or just venturing short distance to look at open fields but saw a ton of jakes to go along with couple toms and hens which bodes well for this season. especially after the surprise quad bypasses which have me back to normal and wanting to run the hills chasing gobbles!! Plus the crappie are biting there?
can't wait and thanks for the pics it did get me going!
Been doing some scouting but I have a honey hole on state land bordering private that is an easy spot to hunt if other spots dry up.
I sort of miss calling in big toms , that and the harvest itself is adrenaline at its best .
But somewhere along the way and the 2 or 3 turkeys work gives out every year made me not want to whack them anymore .
wish we had more at our place in the country , it is my next goal to get them on track over there .
tax man suggested I target birds as my ag exception primary with turkey at the top of the list .
said my whitetail program was working really well and since my place was small it would be a good idea to target other species .
gobble gobble gobble at sunup is a mighty fine sound in the morning air in the spring time :highfive
Yep, spring turkey hunting cures the winter blues. My wild turkey gets a marinade then charcoal smoked with hickory or cherry .
we hog hunt a lot year round these days ,so we never really have an off season for hunting anymore .
if you aint hog hunted you should try it , pretty darn fun and ZERO regulations in Texas on them .
matter of fact the birds in that photo and the big bucks on that place dont get hunted !
them guys went full hog hunting a few years ago on the place they own
...they dont hunt turkey or deer anymore
just saying :highfive
If my 8 year old boy see's this he may be knocking at your door on our way back from Whitt 3/28!!!!! lol
Will find is a non stop predator march that follows a good population of the thunder chickens. Bobcats will be right at the top. Possum and coons a close second as they are nest robbers big time. Maybe a tad early but not seen any poults yet but is an abundance of jakes.
