Fair day for crappie 2/24/21
My friend, Jay, needed a crappie fix today and I’m still trying to get back into the crappie fishing thing after almost 3 months of Bluegill, Striper and Walleye fishing. Weather was spring like but wind got strong enough to white cap the main lake. But it was manageable in the creeks.
Of course, the main river was much clearer than the creeks. We fished sandy brown water in the creek and found the fish where they are supposed to be under these conditions. Very shallow on brush and hungry.
I am in the process of restocking the freezer with crappie since I have given all that we had away the past few weeks. I took 10 home today along with a nice bass that Jmax might have landed a couple of years ago. A skipjack herring and a golden shiner for my catfishing hero, Richard Simms.
Tva running 77,000 cfs, Water temp in creek was 55 and 47 in the main river. I caught 3 different species of fish in a marina. Crappie, Skipjack, and Golden Shiner. 1/24 oz jigs and a chartreuse 2” plastic baby Shad did a number on the fish. I really don’t know how many short crappie that we caught, but it was fun.
