Help with horsehead tying

I have a heck of a time keeping the swivel out of my wraps when tying feathers on. Is there a secret I missed or am I just getting old. LOL

I have not found a real good way to keep it out of the way, I just go slow. I do size up a hook to give me more room for body materials.

I just make sure to miss both end of the wrapping part because the swivel is on one end and the hook point on the other. Just have to get use to how to tie them. Once you have tied a bunch I am sure it will get easier, but until then the advice from Fridays86 is good, just go slower and make wider wraps maybe? I have tied thousands of 1/32 Oz Roadrunners so I am use them them.

Grumpy, I've found the best way is to take a rubber ring for making rubber skirts. Take the blade and pull it up in front of the head with concave side facing the head. Put ring on the end of needle nose pliers and slip the ring over the swivel, o-ring and lower end of blade. Ease pliers out and push rubber ring up past the o-ring as far as you can.As long as you are past the o-ring it will stay put. It's not ideal but, it's the best solution I've found. Good luck. Sam

Thanks folks, it is kinda what I thought. My impatience and hurry is my biggest enemy, I new the answer was on this site.

I modified my mold and used a hook eye cast into the mold. Added swivel after powder coating.

I just use a piece of electrical tape. Got a scrap of Corian. Lay down some strips of tape and cut into 1/8" strips. Pull the swivel forward and stick the tape to the eye so the swivel doesn't swing back. I don't have much trouble with pony jigs but my homemade underspins were a pain.

Leave the split ring and blade off until you're done tying them. You'll get used to them the more you tie.
