Daiwa Procyon UL
I received my third in the series of Daiwa Procyon ultralight spinning rods today .
It’s a 5’6” one piece rod . 1-4# line 1/32-1/8 . It’s the only UL offered in this Procyon series .
The last Procyon series , a two piece 6’ UL was all that was offered .
Before that , there were what I believe to be the original Procyon series , I think were offer in three or four lengths of UL’s .
I was fortunate to acquire a couple of two piece 7 foot UL’s .
The seven footers are awesome fast action , full cork handle , rods .
The 6’ two piece UL is a little more moderate/fast
The new 5’6” one piece seems to be a fast , maybe xtra fast action UL .
It may have a solid tip because it’s very small in diameter. The last four micro guides are wrapped in red .
Can’t wait to try it out with some Trout Magnets .

Just found out the new model Procyon UL’s are available in three models . The 5’6” , a 6”1”, and a 7’1” . All one piece rods .
I’m going to see if I can locate the others for sale anywhere.
Edit : found a couple 6’1” and one 7’1” for sale, but were offered from places I’ve never dealt with . When dealing with one piece rods , a lot of sellers don’t pack the rods well and going through the process of return isn’t worth it for me .
I’ll stick with my 5’6” er .

Sounds like, a smart move. I like the 6’6” ones that I have but where I fish is too tight to use just them so the shorter rods get more use. Never heard of anyone that didn’t like their Procyon.

Hopefully the long range forecast around here is going to be close on some of the days . Mid 60’s for a couple of days middle next week .
Maybe I can get the new rod slimmed properly.

Love to read the reviews from actual users. It helps a lot when considering new rods.

I haven’t even gotten to try out my Procyon yet and the USPS delivered two more rods today .
A 4 piece 6’ travel Daiwa Presso UL and a 6’6” two piece TCB B&M Trout Magnet rod .
Every time I plan a trip , something always gets in the way .
Got a trip planned for this Thursday if the weather cooperates and everybody will leave me be . :) .

What a collection, Gill. You will have some great adventures with them.

Haven’t been to the water to try out the new rods , but I got put in the driveway today with a trout magnet and tried them out for casting distance .
I swapped a Shimano Nasci 500 reel spooled with 2# P-line on each rod to give an equal comparison.
The 5’6” Procyon came in last , casting the TM around 36-38’ .
The 6’6” TCB rod consistently cast right at 45’ .
The surprise winner was the 4 piece 6’ Daiwa Presso that was throwing the TM just under 50’ .
Can’t wait to get them on the water .
Hopefully tomorrow.

Messed around with the 5'-6" model at a local shop. Very nice. Wish they had a 6 or 7 foot version, I might have walked out with one.

Although the 5’6” Procyon didn’t cast the trout magnet as far as the other two rods , it’s a nice rod , especially for the money , and it’ll be used but with heavier lures , 1/32 and up .
Probably make a great beetle spin or rooster tail rod . Small crankbaits too .
