Well done! For me, 5'6" is just the right size for UL.

Curious as to which guide train you used...number of guides.

i used 8 guides (12,8,6,4,and 3x4) plus tip, titanium guides with torzite inserts. Could not get guides to even weigh on micro scale. Starting a matagi 5’6” xul 2 piece blank that weighs 10 grams (almost 1/2 of phenix) + weight of similar components, finished rod will be around 1.1 oz. BRC rods has the guide sets for $59 + free shipping. The matagi tip is a 2 (.7mm) so tip had to be ordered with blank. Also, because of your info on JDM rods I picked up a tenryu lunakia 6’10” and a tict ice cube 7’4” ($260 each) which are both around 2 oz and perfectly balanced. Thanks
Beautiful job. Should be a sweet rod to fish. You got some real nice prices on the JDM rods. Where did you source them, if I may ask?

Sweet, I am working on a 5' one now.
Good looking rod man. If your wanting to jump down the rabbit hole of how light you can build it. Do a fuji sk2 seat and cut the grip and butt down to shave off more weight. I used to play with how to get them as light as possible.
thanks, i just got in two spinning blanks from matagi. 5’6” .3 oz
and 6’6” .4 oz. which r 1/2 the wt of the phenix. Complete rods will be 1.1 oz and 1.2 oz. i am using the ul fuji skm reel seat (13 grams) torzite rings + titanium rings and a 1” eva foam rear grip. I got the blanks via voodoo rods. I was trying to see if i could build a jdm gamakatsu or varivus wt ul rods which also weigh around 1 oz.
Very nice
