Just curious to see what y’all think. Now that we are finally starting to get some cold weather, what do you expect crappie to do as water temps start to drop from low 60’s down to low 50’s and even lower over next few months? Do you change your fishing tactics once the water has dropped to a certain degree?
In my opinion the fish will start to move off the timber to open water. The Fall bite is much like the pre-spawn bite. This is a great time of year for long lining.
most have ben longlining all summer when they can get on the water with out all the pleasure boaters .look at Hotwater post.
I have caught crappie longlining at Sinclair and Harding in 45*. But then, long-lining is 90% of my fishing, covering water an looking for feeding fish.
At 56F surface temp recently, I found large schools not on any structure, just hanging out in open water 18-20 feet near a drop-off from a flat. I was able to stay on them with my electronics, and hauled in a mess casting small jigs. Same thing last year. Def a pattern, for this lake. Wouldn't claim anything more, I'm old, but still learning...
