Trolling motor and power trim

‹Need some advice.
Yesterday while fishing out of my RT188, the live well pump suddenly kicks in even though my switch was in the off position. It didn’t pump water, but kept on running for several minutes until it shut off. Also, during the same period of time, my power trim would either not function or function at half speed.
Same for my trolling motor, it felt like it would run at half the speed I had it set on. So I start trolling back to the ramp and I felt a power increase in the trolling motor. It started running at full power, and the pt on the motor started working. Got ready to raise the motor up at the ramp, and it would only raise up extremely slowly. I have all three new batteries and they are fully charged.
Any ideas?

sounds like maybe a weak connection someplace, if that's what it is better find it, sometimes they can overheat and cause bad things to happen. Are battery posts corroded, connections and/or splices tight and in good clean condition just a coupe of places to start looking.

Normally the trolling motor is completely separate from the rest of the boat electrical system, so you’d have to have two different problems to do what you described.

New batteries makes me think you want to check the connections first.

Just because they are new batteries does not mean there is not an issue. Depending on how your batteries are set up, I would have to agree with everyone else - check your connections. Specifically, check the grounds. Weak grounds do funny things to electronics. If all the connections are good, I would disconnect the batteries from everything and check voltage at each battery. You may have gotten a bad battery, and again, depending on your setup, a bad battery will pull the other batteries down.

Also check trim solenoid connection, doesn’t take much.

If your batteries have wing nuts on them get rid of them and put regular hex nuts on them. Then you can tighten them better with a wrench or a socket.

In what configuration are the batteries supplying power? The reason I asked it would seem strange to me that you had issues with your tm and boat accessories.

The right size wires with good quality crimps on good terminates with dielectric grease stacked on the post properly with really tight fasteners is very important. I learned this the hard way.

Having a separate battery for crank and electronics and a separate one or more for TM is equally important.

If I had to guess you have an aluminum boat and you are using the boat as the ground block. That's not healthy for your electronics and it is just plain dangerous.
