Bill met me at my house at 0 dark thirty and we headed down to the ramp. When we pulled into the lot it looked like a meeting was going on. Two other boats were there talking. We joined in on the conversation. It was predicted to have winds from 5-10 mph. It was more like 15-20 mph. What to do ?? Then the first boat moved down the ramp and into the water. The second boat followed so Bill and I joined in. The wind made it interesting to say the least.
The wind was coming out of the east , so we headed in that direction, planning to do a drift across the lake. We set out the rods and I dropped the trolling motor in. It started to run, then died. I fiddled with it for a while but could not keep it running. I pulled up the motor and threw out the sea anchor. The boat took a turn as the anchor took hold and we had a nice drift. We settled back to watch the sun rise. It looked like Bill was enjoying himself.

What started as an easterly drift turned to the south. We were heading in close to shore. We pulled the rods and set a new course. One of Bills rods bounces. I tell him he has a fish on. He asks which rod? I tell him but he doesn't think so. I think he has a sleeper on and it is just following along with us. I tell him to check the rod. He leans over and lifts the rod. Fish on !! He lands the first fish of the day. Skunk off !!! We finish the drift. No other action. We move to a new spot and set up the drift.
Bill hears something and looks up. A fighter jet flies by. Then another one. They fly by. That is something we don't get to see out here. But they are not done. Two more fly by's. They are buzzing us ( or so it seemed ). They flew right over our heads Three or for times. Then a group of three fly by. On the return flight one of the jets rolls and we can see the markings on the bottom of the jet, It's the Thunderbirds !! I reach for my camera as they make a wide sweep and head out of the area. Too late to get a picture. That was a fun show that we got to watch.
The wind seemed to have picked up some. I know that the waves have for sure. I think I like those calm days better. We pulls the rods and head in. Only 1 fish to show for our efforts, but we got to watch a great air show as a bonus.
Until next time, Tight line and full nets.
