How do you decide how big is too big? I have around from 1 inch to 2 inches and I was wondering how
Do you decide?
Does it differ between baby shad, tubes, hair, pad hoppers, etc?
Thanks!

That is a very loaded question lol. As far as size of the lure... match the fish to the size of current size of their food. An example would be that black crappie usually favor smaller shad/minnows than white crappie so go down to the smaller size plastic if you are targeting blacks. Later in the year their food has grown bigger so the larger plastic may be needed to simulate the current food size.

Size same as color and everything else......
Time on the water and let the fish tell you
2 inches too big for blacks you think?

Thank god cause most of my current lures are 2 inches , mostly baby shad and jokers. Have some 1.75 curly tails, marabous. And I have a load of 1 -1.5 tube jigs

White crappie i normally use 2.5" to 3". Black crappie i use 1.75" to 2"...mainly use hot rods...
Awesome. I have tons of 2 inch baby shads and tons of jokers. Any luck on those for black crappie?

I've actually caught one of my biggest Crappie on a 1.5" Tiny Shad Assassin plastic body ... my avatar pic is one of those fish :

But, Slabeye has a point ... generally speaking a White Crappie will hit a bigger bait, more often. Black Crappie seem to like a slightly smaller bait profile. But, also ... it depends a lot on the lake itself, time of year, population makeup, etc.
On a local lake I've seen a buddy of mine catch a large White Crappie on a 1/2oz Spinnerbait, while Bass fishing ... and I caught a large Black Crappie on a 4" plastic Craw while "worm fishing" for Bass on the same lake. So, you just never know ... :ThumbsUp
