I was out Fri. and the bite was very slow - water only 54 degrees. The day was cloudy on and off and the air temperature near 60 in the pm. Will the bite pick up on some days before it stays colder? Already kinda miss the 30 fish+ days.
(Of course there is this one lake that has amazing pan fish that I haven't fished in a few weeks which is much different than the two I have been out on.)
Fish will be in transition for sure. What does that really mean though? Don't be afraid to fish deeper now that the thermocline is likely gone. Try live bait if don't already. The fish will be fattening up big time before the spawn. Fish later in the afternoons as the bite can be even better than mornings.
I often target catfish too in the winter months as they are active when I decide I need a break from crappie.

It's all about location. Find the bait and you'll find the fish. And they WILL bite! :)
Thanks guys. I had a feeling that there will be more down days than up days but on the up days the numbers will be there though not as high as in summer. Water temperature dropping, weather instability and cold fronts are predictive of down days; stable weather and water temperatures more supportive of better bites to come.
