First trip out with side imaging
My maiden voyage was this morning with my newly self-installed Helix 7 with Mega SI and DI.
I turned it on as soon as I got away from shore and was pretty much instantly on a side imaging view that looked as good as the simulator. Except it wasn't the simulator because I checked! Factory settings were outstanding and no imaging was blocked by the motor, though if I trimmed it all the way down I could introduce some shadowing on the left but I could still see stuff on the bottom. I really couldn't do much better than factory settings on this trip.
The DI was fantastic too. The CHIRP didn't see much action, but I did see that it only held bottom up to around 20mph.
I got the TD a bit too low, it's throwing a small rooster tail. I'll adjust that before next trip. I was concerned about it because I used the factory "kick up" mount and you don't snap it in place until you've screwed it place. It dropped more than I thought when I snapped it in it's final place. Not a hard fix.
I am impressed but have one concern. I found lots of structure, a brushpile or two but very few of what I could determine to be fish.
Maybe it was my spot, I'll have to get out more. I had to leave the water after about 3 hours as a front was about to blow in. I hope to be back out soon and playing with this new toy.
