Broken timing chain

I could not get my Johnson Suzuki 140 on my pontoon to crank. Found out it had broken the timing chain. Trying to figure not if I should have it repaired or junk it out and buy a new motor. Motor has around 750_hours and I have already put about 3500 dollars in it. From what the mechanic said it must be a common problem. Anybody have this repair done and roughly how much did it cost. Did motor develop any more problems. I know every motor repair is different and so are prices just asking for a ball park figure and if you would recommend the repair. Thanks

From what little I can find your looking at roughly 250.00 in parts and around 6 hours shop labor rate. So I’d figure roughly 800.00. That is if when it broke it didn’t damage a piston or valves. If it was running it’s highly likely piston could have hit a valve. I have no experience with them just doing some research. Maybe MbSeeks or Sliderman will see this and have some first hand knowledge. This is just my opinion but with what you have spent on that motor I’d seriously consider a new motor. But that’s all determined by your financial situation. If no other damage then chain might be a better option in short term.

What yr model ?

If it's a older v6 , there is more than 1 chain, in the bottom, junk it, you can't get all metal pieces out. If inline yes . IMO

That's alot. Of hours. What's compression on cylinders. ????
