Probably from the 50’s. I know when I was small they were quite prevalent. History I have read said some of the first were actually made from radio antennas from Sherman tanks that were war surplus. Might do a little research and find out if they are worth anything to collectors.
Have two (one round and one square) in the corner behind my computer desk, haven't got them out in years, were my dad's and he used to have a sugar sack covering the reels and used a 'Prince Albert' pocket tobacco can to carry his red/white and black/white daredevils in.

I have 2 old metal rods in my collection of old stuff, 1 in the original case. Dont believe their worth much and thank God for the graphite and composite rods we have now.

I have one metal rod that belonged to my dad. It now hangs on the wall.
I have one, it is square and it is a True Temper....I am thinking it is early 50's vintage.
I remember the square poles. You could get them in metal or solid fiberglass. Ben Franklin Store had them. Made in Japan in 50's I believe. I never owned one. We cut or own poles from river bank cane.
I have one my have one my grandparents bought me in the 50s so I could fish with them.
You have a piece of history there. Companies like Bristol and others made them early on (turn of the century).

Another was Americal Fork and Hoe, which I think later became Tru-Temper. I think the steel rods peaked out after WWII but were quickly replaced by the new fiberglass rods.
I have one made of Aluminum, the Airex Durod. It was sold from the late 40s to about the mid-50s.
