NFO DEER HUNTING EP2 - YouTube
My 7yr old son stuck his first deer with a bow. Looked like a perfect hit but we never found it. What do you guys think happened?
at first glance it looks perfect but i think its a little too far back and got the bottom part of her liver. those thick clumps of blood usually means a liver shot and the liver bleeds quite a bit then will just stop. that's happened to me a couple of times. Ive found em 200 yrds away with a dog before after a liver shot. that's a tough one there you can see the disappointment in his eyes when y'all got back home. your boy did a great job even getting the bow up with that many eyes around.
Leg on that side is back so the shot is a little low and back, most likely got liver and stomach. Deer is most likely dead somewhere. Wish you were close, my pup needs more work.
I appreciate it guys! Hitek, Was it hard to train your pup? I hate loosing deer and I have a 10 month old black lab.
If that young'un, if he doesn't loose interest in his teens, is going to be a natural. You can see the drive in his eyes and maturity for his age. Thanks for sharing.
I hate he lost his deer but it will help him on his next one.
wish i saw this yesterday , most house dogs can find wounded deer fast , i seen little lap dog muffy types go right to them .
dogs are hard wired to chase deer , something in that there dna . should a leashed up that dog and gave it a sniff .
on a side note the last buck we tracked hit like that bled hard for a good bit and quit and then about 100 yards later it started up again and then laid down ...then got up and went a bit farther and then laid down again . we had to use a dog to find it .
hopefully as bow hunter you know to never pursue one until an hour or so after the shot . pushed deer go for ever and ever . hopefully the next time he gets to hold his deer . heck if you look hard early today with a dog you might still find it .
bow hunts sometimes just go wrong for sure . my bud arrowed a 10 2 years ago and he films and it looked hit perfect . that buck was in the 160 class for sure and he tracked it with dogs and never found it . he is about as deadly a bow hunter as they get and has lots of monster bucks under his belt . sometimes it just aint meant to be ....
tell him no worries from me and to stay on the course , he will get to hold
alot of deer in his time and he is already really good at it . :cheers2
Thankyou so much for your kind words guys! He is eat up with the sport. We will try em again tomorrow morning bright and early!
His career is just getting started and I feel he is hooked....I hate he lost is first target but it happens to all of us. I agree with the others, liver/gut hit and yes the deer is dead.
I actually did the same Friday, 17 yard shot but she was quartering toward me harder than I thought. Impact looked good and she ran 15 yards and stopped and I was certain she was going to fall over right there then just started walking off!! I could see blood pouring from the impact side and was for sure she expired just out of sight, 30-35 minute wait then got my gear together and headed down to retrieve my arrow and start to look for her. The spot she stopped and the next 75 yards looked like you had poured red paint on the ground and then I JUMPED her.......Uh oh!!
I just immediately sat down, grabbed a bottle of water and a pack of crackers and had a little break. Waited another 25 minutes or so and started tracking again and like you said was just finding spots/drops.....was so faint I had to use toilet paper pieces as markers so I could keep up with the last spot found and would have to keep back tracking and scouring the ground!!
Took me another 45 minutes to an hour to find her!! Impact side she had liver hanging out and exit side was mid ribs.....
Tell the young man good job and not to lose hope, get after them again and make redemption!!
