Longling for Crappie
I have had some success but have a few questions....
1. I often use Blakemores..What are your go-to lures , colors, and size?
2. Is a sinker ever necessary to add depth while trolling? I realize boat speed and amount of line out influences lure depth.
Thanks!

I would suggest two sources right here on CDC, the South Carolina board and the Mississippi board. The SC guys longline jigs, and I have learned a lot from them. The Mississippi guys are trolling cranks. Both sites are absolutely full of good info. Another point to consider is when you start buying equipment, purchase from the many providers who frequent and support this forum. You will find them all to be an asset to your efforts.

My go-to longline lure is a litewirehooks jig (I run 2 jigs tandem, usually 2 x 1/16 oz ) with a Charlie Brewer Crappie Slider or a Southern Pro Hot Grub curly tail plastic. Colors vary according to bite and water conditions, but there is always some white and chartreuse and blue ice color on there.

I use hand poured 1/32 pony heads with #2 hook and willow blade. Painted ends up 1/16th. I run singles usually. Can start on shallow side with half cast, then full cast, then little bb, increasing weight each pole till get to last deep pole. A medium minnow added weighs about 1/16 for me. Put different colors on and as you catch fish, pay attention to speed, turning left or right, colors, meat/no meat. As you see a pattern form, just change out another pole that isn’t performing with what is. You can really have lots of fun. Enjoy.
