After bringing the cane pole home, I started a list of things I wished to upgrade, repair, and add new to the rig. The boat came with a Lowrance hds touch 7 and pre rigged for the 7 to network with another unit at the rear. This was by a network cable. The decision was made, after much thought and several questions to Rickie, to purchase a Lowrance hds touch 9 and a LSS2 transducer. Being a humminbird man on my wareagle the learning curve will be made to keep the cane pole lowrance matching.
When fishing by myself, I will use both units up front and have access to all three transducers. If a fishing partner is with me, the 7 will be transferred to the rear and the 9 and 7 can be networked through the existing network cable or just as stand alone units. After purchasing a very nice condition hds 9 of bass central, a order was placed with bbg, for a new LSS2 transom. Upon arrival the boat was taken to Union City Marine and Jamin mounted the LSS2 and ran the wiring for it and the hds 9 to the front of the boat. While there I had him replace the cranking/electronics battery. The one with the rig was a little dated. kinda like it previous owner.:Rofl
After bringing the rig back home a day was spent deciding how to mount the units up front. The final decision was to leave the existing base ram mount in place and mount another base ram mount beside it for the hds 9. I had a ram mount unit left over from other projects so I was able to save a little money. While scratching around in the shop, I found another smaller ram mount with a trolling motor stabilizer head lying forgotten in a box. I decided to mount this to add additional support for the humminbird trolling motor. While rummaging around, I also found a humminbird wiring end and wired it to a hand 12 trolling motor I had and tested it out with the boat plug. It worked perfect so now I have a ready back up trolling motor in case this one fails or needs any future repairs.
