07/25 Chick Crappie and a bonus trash fish
We started at 5 am with the intention of some early topwater for bass and then to get enough crappie for a meal. The topwater never happened. We were able to put 11 bass in the boat. Not much size except for one. Ken was able to get his PB largemouth with bucket mouth 10.40 lber. He did everything he could to lose the fish. At one point he dropped his head and said its off, I put the net down, and then I watch as his rod almost gets ripped out of hands and he yelled, "Its back on". Got a good laugh out of that. About 10 am, I found a group of larger fish on a stump in 12ft of water. Really didnt think they were crappie, but first cast to them, a 12 incher comes in. Caught 6 quick ones, all between 12-14 inches and headed in to get out of the heat. All came on a 1/8 light wire head, with a gulp 3" minnow. Cast past the stump let the jig fall to 7ft and slow wind back to the boat. This school had 30-40 fish and they were fighting for the bait.
