Another productive summer morning

Decided to give the hot summer mornings here in the capital district another shot. Have gone a few times between my last post and this morning, but just haven’t been able to put my finger on em. Been getting on the water around 6:30-7 and just haven’t been able to get on a good bite. So this morning we decided to get on the water as close to 5am as possible.

Well, on the water at 5 and in our “area” by 5:15. Found a school of bait on the depth finder and sent a heat seeking hair jig at em. About 3/4 of the way down and my line takes off for deeper water. From then until the sun got above the trees, where we found bait fish, we found crappie. In an hour or so we probably caught 8-10, including a slab at 1.8lbs. But once the sun got above the trees, it shut down.

We plunked around until noon and only caught 3 or 4, 9” fish which ends duo back in the drink. Overall we caught 14 or so and I ended up keeping 7 of em for the freezer.

Ready for the water to cool down so we don’t have to chase these jokers so much lol.

Beautiful sunrise shot you got. And that is one WIDE crappie you're trying to stuff into the checker.
Regarding the warmer water, I've been finding them deeper than usual, just above the thermocline layer, out away from the usual edges and weed lines in the ponds I fish. Not the deepest main basin but sort of on the shelf between the incline up to shallower water and weeds, and the drop away in to the main basin.

A good catch way to keep after them thanks for sharing
