Just for comparison, here's a male Longear Sunfish that I caught a couple years back while sampling Largemouth Bass at Chase SFL. Pretty cool looking FEESH we have in Kansas!

I catch lotsa longears in the rocks near the EL Dorado sailboat ramp and at Cheney also. Most are pretty small, seems to be more of them than in the past.

That's a pretty orangespotted sunny. Don't believe I've ever caught one but I've caught lots and lots of longears. I caught this one from deep water at Melvern last year, I believe it's a large (for a longear), male.
