Bait !! :Rofl
Seriously, though ... they appear to be some kind of minnow, but without knowing what lake and what the lake contains (as far as fish species is concerned) it would be difficult to know, exactly. You'd have to net one and get a side view pic of it before identification is possible, unless the lake only has one minnow species present.
it's Sandy Creek in WV, I know there is Carp and Channel Cat. But so far I haven't seen any other type of Fish. I'll try and net a few and get better pics.
Looks like Shiners, there are thousands of them. I am going to keep feeding them and see if they will stick around Attachment 379226
Could be a Brook Silverside, too. :dono
Brook Silversides are all over our lakes ... you usually see them jumping out of the water or "skipping" across the water, mostly close to the banks. They're usually eating flying bugs, or escaping a predator when they do. (one of their nicknames is "skipjack", though they are not really a Skipjack Shad)
If you can keep them alive, they're a better Crappie bait than a Shiner, Minnow, or Shad. :twocents
Thanks Pappy, I'll give them a try
I believe they are very delicate, particularly at that size. I dont think they will survive on a hook for long due to their size.
Yeah, I wouldn't use more than a #4 hook (maybe even a #6) and probably hook them behind the eyeballs. BUT, if they are Silversides, I can attest to the fact that even recently dead ones will get bit ... and, in fact, I have used the larger ones, cut in half, with similar results. Now, mind you, this was an experience from decades ago, on a local lake & during the spawn ...also, when I was a kid, my Grandparents and I would net them at night & Crappie fish with them with good results.
I just keep feeding them til they get big and plump and Bait ready.lol
