Trolling Motors
I am not trying to start a war. But I am searching for answers to a problem. I absolutely hate foot controlled trolling motors, hate might not be a strong enough word. In talking to other people, I am not alone. The only 24v hand control I can find is a MinnKota Riptide. The handle is about 8” long, needs to be 3’, and the reviews are awful. Is there anybody else on here that shares my hatred of foot control motors that has found a suitable solution(the rubber extension things are not a solution), thanks for any info you may have.

I like the power button mounted on the floor and a push pull pole type . The ones that attach to the shaft , not the handle .

When I used a hand control trolling motor I had a piece of thin wall PVC I used to extend the handle and I filled most of it with foam so it would float it always worked great.

I already had a bow mount bracket so I bought a 70lb traxxis it’s actually a transom mount trolling motor as soon as it came in I took the head of removed the transom mount and spun the head 180 degrees by doing this I saved about $500.

Oh and I bought a minn Kota extension handle about $25

I share your dislike for foot controls. I had a Minn Kota Maxxum 80/BG/Hand Freshwater Bow Mount. Had quite a few problems with it. Shaft cracked and I didn't know it which ultimately led to water in the head which had to be replaced. Parts still under warranty but I had to pay labor, which was several hundred. Then the little mechanism that controls the speed in the handle started messing up and would only work on about half the speeds, stopping at mid speed. I figured out what the problem was and bought the part and replaced myself. All worked good for about a year. Then this year, controls started skipping again. And ultimately head started getting water in it and finally stopped. No cracks in shaft, so I assume maybe a seal issue.
Long story short, the options for a Hand Control are very limited. Either have MotorGuide or Minn Kota. I heard so many bad things about Motorguide I decided to just buy another Minn Kota Maxxum but I got a 70 vs. 80 since they were on back order. I've used it once so far. Lets just hope the first one I got was a bad apple.
Should be simple to make some extension for the handle if you can't buy one. Use a hose clamp to secure it. :)
