Decent morning with Jay W. 6/22/20
Jay and I had a fairly good morning while crappie fishing. 12 keeper crappie went home with Jay to feed his 3 kids and wife. I caught a 7 lb blue catfish and was intending to keep, but after hauling him around for an hour or so, decided to set him free. I think that I heard him say thank you Lord as he swam away. Jay caught a small white bass and that was our only other bonus fish.
We began on a main lake point with deep water running right up against the bank and Jay got us started with the first keeper crappie. The fish were off the end of the point and after landing a couple more, the fish shut up. Then to another spot and I caught one keeper there. It was a bluff upriver from where we started.
Offshore next where we caught the rest of our fish. It was a ledge on the main river with brush cover and many more fish than we caught. Our fish came on Monkey Milk and Lightning bug baby Shads and minnow minder’Rs. One of my favorite offshore structures has failed to produce fish this year and has me puzzled. I’m not seeing the fish on the graph like they should be.
The day before the bass tournament and every pro must be planning on fishing down here. They go out of Dayton boat dock and Richland creek. I’ll be glad when they finish up.
