Golf Course Largemouths
Wow! There's not too many people posting in the bass section here. That makes sense though. This is a crappie website after all. Anyway, the rainy season is starting and the water levels are rising. Recently I fished a local golf course after an afternoon rain storm and with an overcast sky all evening. It was only my second time there, but considering the stained water and tons of lillypads I decided to go with something I don't normally use, a spinnerbait. Went with one of those bright chartruse ones out of the dollar bin at Walmart. Figured the bright colors and vibrations would be good for the conditions and since the spinnerbait is fairly snag proof, I thought it was a good choice for the pads. It ended up being the right move since I landed a handful of largemouths in about two hours and lost a few more. It seems like if I lose a fish, it is almost always when they jump. I know to try to keep the line tight when they do this, but any other advice? At times I'm amazed at what fish will eat. A spinnerbait doesn't look anything like a natural food source for fish, but I guess they don't mind. Tight lines guys.

A rod with a slower action (like a moderate) will help to keep the line tight and should help you with jumpers.

Thank you. Will have to keep that in mind next time I'm looking for a rod.

A spinnerbait is a bream imitator. I think you need to set the hook harder and they won't come off on the jump as much. I don't really see you setting the hook, just speeding up your retrieve. Snap that hook in to them. My opinion.

I fish my local Golf Courses at Night especially on league nights from dark untill 11pm maybe 12m. It depends on amount of cars left in parking lot when they are having a few at the Lounge... Pads- I would use a fluke. My ponds are weed choked to 12 feet from shore. I use 10 inch Power worms in dark colors or Reaction Innovation 10 inch worms. I also like to use a horny toad from Zoom. throw the weeds back in lake- You don't want GC personal to get mad at you or even know you were fishing their ponds...
