Reelfoot Spillway
There is a meeting tonight on the future of fixing the 30 ft. hole at the bottom of the spillway. They want to build a new spillway but the homeowners around the lake are blocking it. Haven't heard both sides of the story but sounds like they would want to do something to fix it otherwise they are going to own property on the side of a large dirt bowl.
Whatever they do, I hope they get something done. We will never get that ecosystem back once it is gone.

Yea seriously they need a new one. They have pumped tons of concrete into the current one trying to stop the leak but no luck.
-
In the paper yesterday, They said nobody wants to stop the spillway, It just taking awhile to get all the permits.
It stated that back in the 30's the first spillway was supposed to keep the lake 2 foot lower than they keep it now and some land owners want some money to compensate the new spill way because it supposed to raise the water lever one foot higher than what is now. And the state filled out the wrong permits and they are having to redo them.
They put the quotes in the paper 3 companies bid on them 1,269.224 & 1,534,578.41 & 1,535,397.75 million
So the low down is total opposite of what I thought.
I thought the state was Greedy and didn't want to build it.
and thought land owners were Stupid. and now the truth is
State was stupid and left out permits and the landowners are Greedy.
Go figure

Oh yea, it says the new spillway will have fish ladders.
-
What is a fish ladder? So you can get down there to fish?
-
A little birdy told me that Dewitt out of Jackson got the job, and that shows us that progress is motion.:)
-
Dement.. yea they bid the 1.2 mill, they were 200,000 less than the other two and the other two were within a few thousand of each other. The paper said they were going to check and see if they missed anything in the bid and then award it to them.
A fish ladder is where the fish and swim back thru the spillway, I think its a lot of small steps with water running over it.
-
Yeah Dement :D, I guess I was thinking about auctioneers at the time.
It seems awful strange that they could out bid Ford by that much. They had to have missed something. either way I'm ready for them to get started. Any word if they will have to draw the lake down to complete the job??
-
It seems crazy to me to spend 1.2 million to patch it. Why not quit draggin the ole feet and build a new one.
-
That's what the permits are for.
