I have read a little about some lithium ion batteries. They tend to be fairly expensive
I was going to suggest that but they are expensive. Dakota lithium brand I have seen several guys use in kayaks.
I looked into them for the boat. The weight savings to me don't justify the cost for the boat. For a kayak depending on the type of fishing you do they could have a lot of benefit
If I remember correctly the one site said they last about 10x longer than normal batteries so cheaper in long run once that’s figured??? :dono
I believe they require a different charger as well
I just bought 35ah 12v for $63 shipped amazon
approx 20lbs.
(agm)
Will that be enough battery?
Don’t over think it.
I have a 2 person fiberglass pirogue that is probably 150 lbs empty. I have a small Walmart 12 volt Car battery, I think 425 CCA
It will power the 40 lb minkota
Easy 6-7 miles or most of a regular day fishing.
I think it was about $60

I know this is an old post but the Old Town Predator Minn Kota XL (as stated by Old Town) requires a minimum of an 85ah battery. An 85ah lithium battery would be sweet, probably less than 10 pounds (and probably pretty expensive). I think my current lead acid weighs around 60-65 pounds.
