45 vs 55 trolling mortor
I currently have a MK edge 45# on my boat. My question is, Just how much more power can I expect if I bought a new 55# and put it on the boat? My current motor is 5yrs old and I have trouble keeping on target when the slightest little wind increases. Will the 10 exatra pounds of thurst make that much difference? I have wired the boat to take on a 24v motor but, to save on cost, I have found a MK edge 55 at a really reasonable price. What do yall think??

I have the 55 lb thrust 12v on a 16' flat and I can hold against the wind pretty good.

Hey Thanks for all the replies, help, suggestions, etc. I ordered a 55# MK from the factory outlet store and was very pleased with the price. It is shipping today and I'll soon find out just how much difference there is between the 45# and 55#. Hope is was worth the effort. Heck, the good side of this is the fact that I will have a spare now.....:-)

Wished I had a Boat big enough to throw another Battery in the hole ---- turn the boat around and go the other way and troll without using any power --- dem Crappie can chase it down going 10 MPH

I have had a 55 # in the past and loved it! Only issue I had was that it would get hot and melt a wire on the inside of the top. It was a 12 volt system, don't know if you can still find them in 12 volt but imagine you can and mine was years ago so I'm sure they have addressed the issue I had in mine. If I was to buy one today, I would go with a 55!

Thanks Shadow, I ordered the 55 last Friday and it is a 12v system. I had one on a older Kingfisher boat in the early 90's and it did well. The day I ordered the new motor in listed as in stock however, not it is backlogged.
