black Friday on the water
We had Thanksgiving over at a friends house. At dinner Eric asked about my fishing. He has said that he wanted to go with me sometime but has never made it. I asked what he was doing Friday morning ? But I don't have a license he said. You can get one on line I said. The next thing I knew, he was sitting at his computer. What time he asked .
We hit the ramp a little after 7am. It was busy. We got in line. I looked for a parking spot. I might be able to get the last one in the lot. I did !
We head out to my Happy Hunting Grounds to join the other boats that were already working the area. We start to set out the rods. I give a few tips to Eric ( he never fished with long rods before ). We were almost finished setting his last rod when one of them goes off. I dig out the net that was still stowed. First fish of the day, Erics' first fish and it's a keeper. I finish setting my rods. And the wait is on..
It took awhile before the second rod goes off. It's a small one that goes back in the lake. The next three fish make the return to swim another day. AND they were slow in coming. We need to change things up. We pull rods and run to the other side of the lake. It was more crowded than at my Happy Hunting Grounds. We set up.
One or two more small fish come on board. Then the lines get tangled. By the time we get it cleared we are way off course. I look around and pick out a new plan of action.
It wasn't long before we boat a nice keeper. I put the boat in to a circle and go over the area again. Another fish ! We do it again and again. We add fish on each pass.
I look at the fish counter and we are tied with the same amount of fish in the box. It's time to work our way in. Eric boats another keeper, pulling ahead in the count. I catch up a few minutes later. It looks like the day will end in a tie. Nope, Eric lands the last two fish of the day.
