I saw this in a magazine I was reading recently and it struck a chord in me. I catch and release more lately, much differently than in years past. This statement from the writer says it about as close as I’ve seen to the way I tend to think of harvesting a fish or animal. I’ve already stopped deer hunting due to my lack of confidence that I could retrieve one that got off in the thick, bad stuff that is prevalent where I hunt, which I mostly did alone. Anyway, without further adieu, here it is. Thanks for taking the time to read this......Skeet

I think a lot of us are in that boat. I don't keep as many as I used to, gotta clean them. I would rather see that spark when someone else catches them..,maybe it's age, maybe it's the wisdom that comes with age....or maybe it's the aches and pains too :)
But it just seems it's the sights sounds and experience of being out, more than the catch or numbers

You know what I hate is, waste. I hate fish in the freezer that get freezer burnt and go to waste. I lived in Illinois, and when we would take a Salmon fishing charter, we would always come home with way more fish that we could eat any time soon. I always seemed to throw away fish at the end of the year when I cleaned out the freezer, and I hated that. I learned then to only freeze fish you're gonna eat within the month, period. So really I only keep one or two frozen packs of fish at most. And truth be told, I prolly release 90% of the fish I catch. Except when Shu is with, cause I know him and his grandkids will take good care of it, it's likely not even gonna make it to the freezer there, right Shu.

We eat a lot of fish, but it is only 2 of us. I throw back a large percentage of the fish I catch, but keep some in the freezer for tough winter times. I vacumb seal mine and they are good for a long time.

I also like to limit my catch . I have set a 12 fish max that I will take home. That is all that I like to clean at any one time. more often then not I will keep 6 to 9 fish per trip. ( three fish makes a meal for me and Paula ) . We do eat a lot of fish and we have friend over for fish dinners. ( some of them don't fish ???? ) I like to do 'one for the table, one for the freezer' . I vacuum bag the freezer fish, they last a long time. At the end of the year (season ) or the start of the new season, I have a neighbor hood fish fry to clean out the freezer to start fresh.
I don't like to waste anything if I can help it. I have a large garden so all the fish heads get buried in the garden. That way they get to feed the plants. And then the plants get to feed me .
I do catch and release. We need to take care of the things we enjoy, or they may not be around for the next one's to enjoy.
Thanks Tim for a good reminder .

I have a friend that fishes a lot more than I do... The Buzzards love Him -- they dont leave a scale or bone behind... My Trail cameras say I have a Fox hunters dream for Land ... Two Mated Black Foxes -- Gray Foxes - Red Foxes, A Bob Cat and an Old Coyote that is Skin and Bone.... I see all kinds of food type things at dumpsters that wildlife would love for a meal ... But too much of a good thing is also bad for wildlife --- just dont waste --- something out there is hungry

I practice catch and release all the time. Just yesterday I caught a big slab, it weighted 2lbs 3ozs and she went right back in the water after picture and weight. I do keep fish for 3 or 4 people here in Florida that are in their 80's And can't go catch for them selves. I even clean them for 2 of them. A freezer full is often times wasted. We all should respect what we catch and what we put back for the younger generations coming behind us. Thank you Tim for sharing that news report.

Very seldom freeze any fish as the wife likes fresh fish better. That gives me an excuse to fish more often. Also limit my catch as you don't need a lot of 12 to 14 inch fish to make a meal. I have a mean streak too that I love the look on peoples faces when you put back a 2 pound fish................. I do miss my "tree time" bow hunting it was my time to get away from people and recharge my batteries.

I know this is gonna hurt some feelings but I don't keep any unless my grandma wants em, I personally think that specks are quite tasteless compared to salty species I get, I just like the thrill of goin after something new cause I'm bored with catching redfish and flounder

I view it as a personal call, but i do agree we shouldn’t be wasting any.
Thats the nice part about fishing, you can opt to put it back and watch it swim away.
With deer hunting when it’s over, its over.
But in 2 weeks I’m going anyway and ill be driving 1200 miles alone each way to get there.
And TIM, I’m soon to be 85. Lol
