Had the rear casting seat mount at the deck break this weekend. On the way home I picked up a replacement. Well not exactly a replacement. The one I bought was square. The original was rectangular. The weld had cracked at the root all the way around. Went to TSC and picked up a few Stainless steel rods. Ground off the old weld and welded it back together. Better than new.
You weld it with stick or Tig?
Stick. For structural welds sticks work pretty good. Too much chance for trapped flux to use them on something pressure tight
Better than sitting on an over turned bucket! :)

I thought you were welding to a aluminum deck. I have a 140 Hobart and 250 Miller migs an AC-DC Miller stick but have always wanted to have a Tig and learn it. It sure is pretty if you know how.
Got to have a High frequency A/C machine for aluminum tig. I have a D/C scratch start set up that will work for stainless and carbon steel.
Your Miller 250 with the addition of a spool gun could be set up to run aluminum
The seat post bracket itself is stainless steel. IIt Bolts to a fiberglass deck . If it had been available as a replacement part it would have been about as cost effective to replace it. Since it was not it had to be repaired
Thanks for info.I need to pick up some of those stainless rods and try them. I am just a self taught welder but I have built some large equipment from scratch on the farm and worked out OK.
They are pricey. If needed for a repair they aren't that bad
