link not working. what type of trouble
The best advice I can tell you for trailer lights is run a redundant ground to each light. Since doing this 10 years ago, I've never had a problem with trailer lights. Don't trust the trailer to be your ground! Period!!
Just over a year ago I bought a new wiring harness for my boat trailer and replaced the whole thing. Did LED lights, too. Came with a good looking plug and heavy duty main jacket up front. Extended the white ground wire to the lights to ground everything back to the tow vehicle. Dielectric greased every connection and then sealed 'em in heat shrink. Now I don't even bother unplugging my trailer when I launch or load my boat. I went ahead and also replaced wires and lights on my utility trailer while I was at it, nice bright lights now.
Life is too short to deal with old, cracked, and over spliced trailer wires.
Blowing fuse on truck. Found shorted marker light. Replace both side markers. Colors on Reese wiring harness are different from one on etrailer. Took a picture of Reese while at store getting marker lights.Attachment 353954
Brown is tail lights and markers, green is right blinker and stop, yellow left blinker and stop. White ground. Make sure lights grounded to trailer and trailer grounded to tow vehicle.
Dielectric grease on the male plug and the female socket. I have the incandescent lights so I also grease the bulb and sockets. So far no problems for a few years but if any develop I'm going LED.
Leds in my opinion really need a ground ran to the light. I fought the flickers until I ran the ground all the way
Curious how to do this.
Drill into the trailer and run the extra ground to it?
