Tuesday afternoon Grand River bluegills
Jeff and I hit the back waters of the Portland dam yesterday afternoon looking for enough bluegill for my dinner. The water was up slightly and the current a bit stronger than usual so we looked for eddies and areas close to the bank with current breaks. Most people don't think about the river as a bluegill fishery and that is to our advantage. We rarely see any one else else when we fish there.
Jeff was using a small jig and baby shad type bait under a set bobber and I was using red worms and pieces of crawler on a #10 aberdeen under a slip bobber. When we found the right type of areas, the bite was fast and furious. We caught a ton of bluegills and sunfish from 3" to 8", both large mouth and small mouth bass, rock bass and one decent channel cat.
The last fish I landed was the catch of the day and I need to tell BillBob, there are some fish that, no matter how far out you hold them, still look small. I also caught a funky looking gill.Attachment 352609Attachment 352610Attachment 352608
