Super Dark Moon Crappie
Huh? What is up with all the Moon names nowadays? Growing up I do not remember all these different names for the our nearest celestial neighbor; Super Moon, Blood Moon, Blue Moon, Harvest Moon, Strawberry Moon, now Black Moon or Super Dark Moon. What does it all mean, not sure here but I do believe it affects the way the fish behave and bite. Sure they have to eat , but the darn devils were sort of uncooperative this afternoon, the eve of the Black Moon. I located lots of bait, marked a pile of fish on several known Crappie hideouts just had to basically talk the rascals in to biting my offerings. Bobby Garland Baby Shad fished on a 1/32oz jig head in the Blue Ice and Monkey Milk were the colors of the baits presented after being doused in Slab sauce. Fishing depths ranged from 17-22ft and they were sitting dead on the bottom of the 89 degree water. Lightning and distant thunder may not have helped either, but the fish were just in a negative mood. The bite was light, and all the fish I was marking had to be just turning their noses away from the bait, there were just so many showing up on the electronics and just not biting. From 5-9pm I put 17 fish in the boat with only 10 making the trip home for freezer filling.

Slimy rascals they were, they left me a nice present in the livewell that I will have to hose out tomorrow.

The size of the keepers was respectable, most were right out the 12in mark, perfect eating size.

I do believe the Dark Moon affected the bite tonight, and I think we are going to have another one at the end of August. If you got out there today or are going tomorrow, hopefully they will be a little more cooperative. Yes, they are biting, but you may have to work at getting them to commit, I know I did.

Great job. Those are some nice eaters especially this time of year.

Those fish are acting just like the fish on Chickamauga. Very negative the last two trips out for me. But, you did scratch out some nice ones. We have to let the jig hit bottom and then do a slow lift drop presentation to get a bite.
