Good sonar for finding brush piles and bottom structures

What sonars you guys like for using crappie fishing to find underwater structures?
I see some of them advertised and show really good detail.

I like Down Image units (with dedicated transducer crystal for down imaging). Coming from many decades of using b/w 2d sonar units & jumping straight to a color DI unit was an eye opener to me. Took me awhile to get it dialed in how I wanted it, but once I did get it that way .... :ThumbsUp

My current unit (Hook 7) has 2d Chirp & DI, and the ability to blend the two together at the same time (HDI concept). I was never a big fan of 2d sonar, and even less of one after I got my previous DI unit. I normally just used the whole screen in DI mode (800kHz & blue palette) on my previous unit (Elite 5 DSI) and continue to do so with my Hook 7.

I believe most would agree that Humminbird has the best side image units which would make it best for idling around and finding brushpiles.
Other units with side imaging work but not to the level of detail of Humminbird. Also important to remember screen size, I would never consider a side image unit under 9 inches and really love my 12. Bigger screen really helps finding brush.

I got my first SI unit a couple years ago and it is a Humminbird 9 mega,without a doubt it has helped me find brush and fish.

I agree with Roy on this one as I have a 9 and a 8. Currently saving for a 12. The bigger units have better resolution,thus giving a better pic. Plus as we get older bigger screens are easier to read. A big plus for this aging fart.

You referring to the Humminbird Solix Chirp?

I use SI on my Helix 10 Mega everything then down image to focus and mark a waypoint. That was all I needed but somehow felt compelled to invest in a Garmin with LiveScope. I still use the Helix 10 to help locate but the Garmin takes most of the effort away. Best of all I can see if the brush I just located has fish on it.
