Diving into large scale worm production

Hey guys,

I've left my worm farming as a hobby and turned it into a full fledged farm. I've probably got over 200,000 by now.

Outside i've got what I call the beast worm beds. Each one is 50 foot long. Those are stocked with redworms.


Inside my climate controlled barn, i've got 6 worm beds, 14 foot long each.

I've got louisiana swamp worms in those. I'll never be short on bait for the rest of my life! :yikesAttachment 350774Attachment 350775Attachment 350777

Never heard of swamp worms how do they compare to wrigglers?

Louisiana swamp worms are a variation to the redworm. They are a little tougher, stay on the hook better, and have an odor that the fish go crazy for. For me, they breed much better than the red wigglers. They are my favorite bait worm.

You keep the red worms in side the bins outdoors

I have solar lights in the ground all around my outside bins now. Light of the sun keeps them in at day, solar lights keep them in at night.

The swamp worms can also be fed kitchen scraps just like regular red wigglers...right ?

Yes, they eat regular scraps like wigglers. Think of them like a red wiggler on steroids. I give unmedicated chick starter or chick egg layer crumbles to fatten them up before I fish with them, though. I'll make a seperate thread about louisiana swamp worms.

Good, I want to use them for double duty ... fishing and the occasional kitchen scraps that end up stinking in the garbage.
