I don't think I've ever seen the drain plug installed from the outside of a boat. But, on my boat it's a real hassle to put in and remove. Would it matter if I moved the plug to the o

It's better on the inside. But on my boat (and many others) it's next to impossible to get it from the inside, so I don't really have a choice.
I'm on my 13th boat. Have installed from the outside on over half, including the last 5. Use screw type and tighten real good. I have bad wrist's and arthritis in my fingers. I made a little pvc jig to help me tighten the plug. Gonna put on a pic of the type plug I use and a couple pics of the jig I made. Hope this helps. Also carry a spare plug in the boat.

Like that tool. Arthritis in my finger's and every where else too. Can't hardly open a bottle with the right hand. Gonna give that from the outside a try!
That's the way I do my plug, I built a wrench for it, I am eat up with Arthur!
I just used 1/2 inch pvc and cut a slot in the end with a dremel. Really helps.
I insert mine from the outside and carry spare plugs for livewell also; that PVC wrench is a great idea!
Mine goes in from the outside. Stick it in, flip the handle up, and ride.
No getting to mine from inside the boat, at least not easily.
Never had an issue with mine.
I've had a boat for over 20 years now. At first, I always put the plug inside. The boat that I have today is very difficult, and one day a buddy was helping me get ready to launch. He put it on the outside, and I questioned him. He said that was the only way he has ever run a boat, so I tried it that day. That was probably 4 years ago, and I've never had a problem putting it on the outside. The plug I use has the locking lever - adjust the nut on one side to assure a good seal, and flip the lever up so nothing can hit it.
I have always plugged from the outside !!! the way I have looked at it ; you tie/untie down from the outside , you install/remove motor totor from the outside !!!! and the plug hole also outside !!! and I believe in KISS for me Keep It Simple Stupid !!!!:ThumbsUp
